Designing the Look of an Iconic Album

Synchronizing originality and legacy to create a purposeful design.

Challenge:
Create dynamic album art with a deeper message behind it.

Background:
La Unión is one of Spain’s most iconic musical groups. Since 1984, their new wave sound has sold over 2 million records. The album “Hipgnosis” was the 18th album for the legendary band. It featured a collection of their hits remixed by renowned producers.

Most importantly, though, this album was dedicated to the memory of Storm Thorgerson, the founder of Hipgnosis, an English art design group responsible for creating iconic album art for some of the most legendary rock bands and musicians.

Solution:
We designed with purpose, making sure the album art was original while honoring Thorgerson. Our design was inspired by the legendary Pink Floyd album, “The Dark Side of the Moon.”
